6 Days Rongai Route

A quieter path to the Roof of Africa — the Rongai Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the remote northern side, offering steady gradients and beautiful wilderness.

Route Overview

The 6 Days Rongai Route is the only Kilimanjaro trail that approaches from the northern slopes near the Kenyan border. Known for its gentle ascent and lower traffic, Rongai is an excellent choice for climbers seeking a quieter trekking experience.

While slightly shorter than some acclimatization-focused routes, Rongai still provides a strong summit opportunity — especially for trekkers with prior hiking experience.

The descent follows the Marangu Route, allowing climbers to experience two sides of the mountain in one expedition.

Quick Facts:

Best Time to Climb

The northern side of Kilimanjaro receives less rainfall, making Rongai a strong option even when southern routes are wetter.

✅ Prime Months:
  • January – March: Cooler air, excellent visibility.
  • June – October: Dry trails and stable summit weather.
⭐ Bonus Advantage: Rongai performs better during shoulder seasons because of its drier climate.
